CBT Celebrity Classic Basketball Game

CBT 2024 Celebrity Classic Basketball

Get ready for the ultimate showdown as Syracuse University athletic legends take the court for bragging rights.

The JMA Wireless Dome is the place to be on Thursday, Sept. 12, the opening night of the Coming Back Together Reunion weekend. Athletes across multiple generations and sports will face off in the third CBT Celebrity Classic Basketball Game.

If history is any indication, it’s hard to tell who is more excited for the game: the fans or the players. “Fans in Syracuse have rallied behind our teams, and love to come back and see old favorites,”says Rachel Vassel ’91, G’21, associate vice president of multicultural advancement. “At the same time, the players love to come back and fuel their competitive nature against each other and relive the excitement of being in front of loyal Orange fans.”

While the competition is all in fun, it’s also for a good cause. The net portion of the proceeds will support the Women’s Basketball Head Coach’s Fund. Those attending CBT will need to purchase a separate ticket to attend the game, which is also open to students and community members. Tickets are available ticket master

Earlier in the day, alumni athletes and current student athletes will participate in a community service project organized by the Central New York Community Foundation, which is a sponsor of the CBT Celebrity Classic Basketball Game. The athletes will visit two public elementary schools in Syracuse to read with the kids.

"When we think about community and bringing people together, Syracuse University Athletics has a very strong attraction, and at the heart of it are the men and women who left it on the court and the field,” says Melanie Littlejohn, president and CEO of the Central New York Community Foundation. “The excitement that Syracuse athletics has brought to this community is something the Community Foundation wanted to get behind because we recognize that together we are absolutely stronger.”

The game announcer for the Celebrity Classic will be Syracuse Hall of Fame basketball player Vera “Sweet V” Jones ’88. “This game is for those who can walk the walk,” she says. “I can talk the talk and that’s what I plan to do.”

Come cheer on your favorite players and see the court skills of those who made their names in other sports!
